Study Painting at Otago Polytechnic and develop the practical skills to produce works for exhibition while gaining a thorough understanding of art history and related theories.

 

During your painting studies, you will learn to develop your artwork so that it is relevant to today’s society and both national and international contemporary practice. With our hands-on approach to study, you can fully immerse yourself in your work with your own dedicated studio space surrounded by passionate peers.

In our degree or diploma programmes, you will study core art courses followed by painting as your chosen elective, there are eight studio disciplines to choose from.

Our Bachelor of Visual Arts will set you up for an exciting and diverse range of creative professions. During your first year, you will study core art courses, methodology, and art history, then in your second and third year, you can choose a studio discipline to develop your talent in your chosen passion. The eight studio disciplines include ceramics, electronic arts, jewellery and metalsmithing, print, photography painting, sculpture and textiles.
