Outdoor Education

Taught by some of the most passionate and dedicated outdoor educators in New Zealand, Outdoor Education at Otago Polytechnic has a strong focus on practical learning, self-evaluation, personal leadership and industry experience.

Learn how to safely manage a range of outdoor activities applying principles of health, physical and psychological performance applying a framework of kaitakitanga, sustainability and respect for the environment. Improve your ability to gain employment in a range of guiding/instructing positions.  

Our Outdoor Education programme is taught at our campus in Wānaka - New Zealand’s epicentre of outdoor pursuits. Live and study where all the adventure action happens. 

The biggest point of difference at Otago Polytechnic is our hands-on approach to learning. You will gain the real-life skills it takes to transition seamlessly from study to employment within the outdoor industry. 

Outdoor Education qualifications

Adventure & Tourism

Learn the core skills and knowledge you need to work in the outdoor adventure industry including kayaking, rafting, rock climbing and tramping, mountain biking, nutrition, health, physical and psychological performance, and leadership.
