Studying amenities within our Horticulture department will give you the hands-on skills to care for and maintain decorative plants in public parks, gardens, and indoor facilities. You’ll develop both general horticulture skills as well as specific technical knowledge.

Amenity Horticulture qualifications
If you’re interested in horticulture but don't know where to start, this qualification will give you a great introduction to the industry. You'll learn about sustainable growing methods, permaculture, plant propagation, plant and soil science, and how to identify and grow healthy plants. Graduates will receive both the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (General) (Level 3) and the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3) (Amenity).
Gardener, Greenspace Labourer, Grounds Person, Nursery Worker
This qualification has an amenity horticulture focus (public parks/gardens etc). The programme covers applied plant and soil science, plant selection and displays, and asset management. Further develop your skills in this field and the management of public spaces and people. Study full-time on campus or part-time alongside employment in the horticulture industry. Graduates will receive the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Services (Amenity) (Level 4).
