Before you apply

We recommend that you have all the information you need on-hand before you start. However, you can always come back to your application to complete and continue where you left off.

You will need:

  • your academic history - including how many credits you have achieved in
  • your IRD number
  • your iwi details, if applicable
  • your NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 results, or similar/equivalent achievements
  • your NZQA or National Student Index registration number, if you have one. If you can’t find it, don’t worry, we can still process your application

Step-by-step how to apply

Step 1: Start and submit your application

Select the programme you wish to study and complete the application form online. The online application process is easy and only takes 10-15 minutes to complete. You dont have to complete your application in one go. You can go back to your application to view, update and continue where you left off at any time.

Step 2: Acknowledgement of your application

If your application has been successful: When your application has been received you will be sent a letter of acknowledgment within five working days. This my be via email or post. This letter will also let you know when you should expect to have your place on your chosen programme confirmed. If the programme is full, you will be added to a wait list.

If your application has been unsuccessful: You will be notified via email or post. Reasons for being unsuccessful may include that you have not supplied all the information that we require, or your application does not meet the entry requirements of the programme.

We encourage you to contact us immediately so we can assist you with resubmitting your application or finding you another suitable programme to enrol in.

Step 3: Accept and confirm your place in your course

If you have been offered a place in your chosen programme of study, you will receive a letter confirming the details of your programme. It is important that you confirm that you wish to be enrolled into the programme. This means you will need to confirm your details and accept your place within your course in order to complete the enrolment process and for forth with your new study journey.

Step 4: Programme details and timelines

Once we receive confirmation that you wish to be enrolled, we will send you an enrolment pack with details of your programme. An invoice will be sent to you shortly after.

Step 5: You're enrolled – payment of fees

You will need to arrange payment of your fees to secure your place on your programme. This can be done in full - via online banking, by sending a cheque to Otago Polytechnic or by paying at our Customer Services Desk. If you are paying your fees via StudyLink with the help of a Student Loan, we recommend you arrange this immediately.

Step 6: You're ready to study

Congratulations – you’re ready to study at Otago Polytechnic. We will contact you closer to your start date to confirm we have received your payment, and with the details of your timetable.
